Minister Martin announces CAMBio funding (March 2005)

During his visit to Letterkenny Institute of Technology on 31st March 2005, Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Michael Martin T.D. announced the award of €750,000 under the Applied Research Enhancement programme of Enterprise Ireland towards the expansion of the Centre of Applied Marine Biotechnology. This grant assistance will provide funding for expansion and refurbishment of an area within the Business Innovation Centre dedicated to marine biotechnology and support three postdoctoral biotechnologists and a research technician to undertake research on marine projects in association with local industry.

Speaking at the Institute Minister Martin stressed that, “these initiatives could not have happened without the ambition and vibrancy displayed by Letterkenny Institute of Technology”. Future plans for further expansion of the Centre in support of the local marine industry were outlined during the presentations.

Following the announcement the Minster spent time with existing staff discussing progress on the current suite of marine biotechnology projects.
