Current Projects:

Research projects presently active in the Aquaculture and Fisheries division of the Centre for Applied Marine Biotechnology have been sub-divided into three groups, though at present all concern shellfish species under culture in Ireland:

Identification of bivalve larvae

In support of the aquaculture industry, the fastest growing food production sector in Europe, CAMBio is involved in a suite of projects to develop a rapid bivalve larval identification technique.

Shellfish spat collection

A technique for the identification of bivalve larvae of commercial species will allow larval tracking with a view to predicting when, where and at what intensity bivalve larvae settle to become shellfish seed or spat.
