The track record and calibre of the Post-Doctoral
Researcher is critical to the future development of the Centre and
will be made for a period of two years from September 2005. Salary
scale for this post will be € 35,000 per annum.

As Post-Doctoral Researcher
in the new Centre for Applied Marine Biotechnology (CAMBio)
he/she will be expected to be self-motivated towards the development
of a strong applied research programme in marine biotechnology
focussed on the needs of the marine sector in the northwest
region of Ireland. To date marine biotechnology research within
Letterkenny Institute of Technology has focussed on applied
problems in aquaculture, the marine environment and waste remediation
from the marine processing industry. Collaboration with the
existing research team in Letterkenny and commercial companies
in the Northwest region will be essential. |

As a Post-Doctoral Researcher, he/she
will undertake one of the post-doctoral research projects from
the list below, excluding that project to be performed by the
Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher. |

Identification of bivalve larvae
using fluorescence in-situ hybridization techniques |

|
Development of a multiplex real-time PCR technique
for the determination of Listeria, Salmonella and E. coli 157
in marine aquaculture products. |

Development of high-value products from crustacean
processing waste |
 |
Qualified with a Ph.D. in biotechnology,
microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry or a closely related
subject the successful candidate will have relevant postdoctoral
research experience and a proven ability to undertake high quality
research to an international standard. |

Experience in successful applications
for research grant funding and the performance of collaborative
research programmes both nationally and internationally will
be desirable. |
 |
The Post-Doctoral Researcher appointed
will have good communication and organizational skills with
the ability to work in a focussed research team in marine biotechnology.
Experience in the commercialisation of research by way of patenting,
partnerships, licensing, spin-off companies etc. will be regarded
as a significant advantage. |
