The appointment of a CAMBIO Research Technician will
be made for a period of 2.5 years from June 2005. Salary scale for
this post will be € 26,500 per annum.

As Research Technician/Assistant
in the Centre for Applied Marine Biotechnology, the successful
candidate will provide technical support and assistance to the
postdoctoral research programme, in particular to that of the
Project Manager/Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher. The person
appointed to this latter role will be appointed in April 2005
and will participate in the selection process for this post.

As Research Technician he/she may
have understanding of at least one of the projects below: |

Identification of bivalve larvae
using fluorescence in-situ hybridization techniques |

|
Development of a multiplex real-time PCR technique
for the determination of Listeria, Salmonella and E. coli 157
in marine aquaculture products. |

Development of high-value products from crustacean
processing waste |
 |
Qualified with a M.Sc. Degree in
Science, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology or a closely
related discipline, the candidate will have an interest in marine
biotechnology research opportunities and their transfer into
the commercial environment. |
 |
As Research Technician he/she will
assume responsibility for ensuring that all laboratory equipment
and consumables are available in accordance with standard LYIT
purchasing procedures. Collaboration with the existing research
team in Letterkenny and commercial companies in the Northwest
region will be essential. |
 |
The Research Technician appointed
will have good communication and organizational skills with
the ability to work in a focussed research team in marine biotechnology.
